APU Ccala: Natural Light Fawn is one of our newest yarns, handspun in Peru. This gorgeous Super Bulky yarn features a sturdy twist and a beautiful blend of 50% Highland Wool and 50% Superfine Alpaca.

Historically, APU was a high-ranking title used for noble lords or chiefs in the Inca Empire. In the context of Andean textiles and alpaca collections, the name APU honors the sacred heritage and high-altitude origins of alpacas in the Peruvian Andes. Ccala refers to a simpler, less processed yarn.

This yarn is handspun by the wives and mothers of alpaca shepherds in the Andes Mountains of Peru. Sales of these yarns contribute to the economic well-being of the families of these talented women. The project's objective is to empower these Andean women by helping them provide for their families while preserving ancient Peruvian textile traditions.
